Quarantine Blues
03:13
|
|||
it started with a tickle and a scratch in my throat
then the fever hit and that's all she wrote
It's no use
now they're boarding up my door and I got the quarantine blues
last Saturday night I was out on the town
just me and darlene, we were gettin down
cutting loose
now my baby's out dancing and I got the quarantine blues
my fever's going up to a hundred and one
darlene's going out to have some fun
fever's going up to a hundred and two
and my baby's lacing up her dancing shoes
now my heart is heavy and my mind's a mess
just thinking bout the way she looked in her party dress
it's no use
now darlene's out dancing and I got the quarantine blues
if I could only just shake it with her one more time
I could twirl her around, I could make her mine
but it's no use
surely someone else will catch her while I've got the quarantine blues
my fever's going up to a hundred and three
has my baby moved on and forgotten me
fever's gone up to a hundred and four
and she's spinning around on the dance floor
oh if I could just reach her I'd say gimme a chance
I love the way you move I love the way you dance
it's so true, I want you
I'd tell her baby don't forget me while I've got the quarantine blues

Love Affair
05:13
|

he wore his ego like a suit and tie
he had a wife and all the pretty things that money could buy
he had a longing for a love affair
always looking for the thing that wasn't there
he had a bent for self destruction
he had a taste for the obscene
he'd heard the whispers on the wind
he sought her out like a match to gasoline
he wanted more than just an easy lie
he'd heard the rumors she could really blow his mind
he had it all but always wanted more
and she could take him where he'd never been before
that girl
it was a chemical induction
she wore a dress of velvet green
her eyes were clear but her lips were sealed
she spoke like a banshee at the dawn of a mystical dream
she sent him spinning with a lullaby
caught in her web as he was reaching for the sky
so high
oh, her quarry he was far from first
she'd had a hundred more but none could slake her thirst
the curse
it was a process of reduction
stripped soul and body clean
he fell into the trap she set
he thrashed about but he couldn't find the words to scream
he had a longing for a love affair
always dying for the thing that wasn't there

Insane
04:33
|

friday night, the world is buzzing
but I'm just staying home instead
trying to drown out the noise and the hustle
and all the crazy things you said
kick off my shoes, turn on the television
and I climb into my bed
my heart is racing, my phone is buzzing
forty seven messages unread
and the wind is whipping like the living dead
or could it be the voices howling in my head?
but no... you're the bustle in my hedgerow
you're the screw loose in my brain
stop creeping outside around my garden gate
stop peering through my windowpane
I'm not going to play your cat and mouse game
you know you're not the only one of us who is going insane
you call me crazy but you're creeping round my house
and you wonder why I don't wanna be friends
you think you're poking at a scared little mouse
but you taunt the tiger deep within
and I don't wanna tell you this again
you been buzzing round my barbed wire fence
but I'm the queen bee in this hive
think you can scare me but you got no chance
because the game is up and now you're out of time
the tiger's woken up and come alive
come on and meet a little friend of mine I call forty five
bang bang, my friend sends a greeting
and how sweet the sound
soon, soon, you're maker you'll be meeting
now you're lying on the cold cold ground
may the devil take me have I come unwound?
but you were bustling in my hedgerow
you were the screw loose in my brain
you were creeping outside around my garden gate
you were peering through my window pane
and I wasn't gonna play your cat and mouse game
no, you're not the only one of us who has gone insane

Mama's Little Helper
03:13
|

people say a woman's work is never done
cooking and cleaning should be barrels of fun
oh they do, yeah they do
mama tries her very best to do her part
surely she's a master of the womanly art
oh it's true, yeah, it's true
but she's got a little help
to get her through
she could put it in a paper and then give a little roll
or she could save a bit for later and then pack it in a bowl
or she could bake it in some brownies, cookies or a cake
mama's always satisfied with everything she makes
she's always got a smile in the morning or the night
because mama's little helper makes everything alright
she always makes our dinner in her Sunday best
serves it with a smile and then she cleans up the mess
when you're through, just for you
mama's never difficult or angry or sad
she always makes it better when you're feeling bad
when you're blue, she's never blue
but she needs a little help to get her through
she could put it in a paper and then give a little roll
or she could save a bit for later and then pack it in a bowl
or she could bake it in some brownies, cookies or a cake
mama's always satisfied with everything she makes
she's always got a smile in the morning or the night
because mama's little helper makes everything alright

Good Time Saturday Night
04:10
|
|||
when my baby brought me home I thought we'd settle down
but she was leaving me alone and going out on the town
stuck on my own, I couldn't move an inch
oh lord what I would do to have her sitting on my bench
but someone up above heard me, granted me my wish
cause lately every night she's been lovin up on me
oh lord sent me an angel and she's tickling my keys
she hits me in the spots that make me sing and shout
oh sweet Jesus that's what I'm talking about!
my baby's come home and she's not going out
we don't need a smoky barroom
and we don't need a crowd for a good time Saturday night
cause we've been making music in the bedroom
and the world outside might be a mess
but everything in here is alright
oh, the lord made the kingdom and he's handed me the keys
in the form of sweet love and sweet melodies
she's hitting me with the ragtime, the boogie and the stride
she's hammering my strings, she's got my top up open wide
my lonely days are done I got my baby right by my side
we don't need a smoky barroom
and we don't need a crowd for a good time Saturday night
cause we've been making music in the bedroom
and the world outside might be a mess
but everything in here is alright
